A College Student's Guide to Skincare During Quarantine

With school online, sports canceled, and friends quarantined you probably feel the same way we do: like you have way too much time on your hands. This whole thing can also feel very overwhelming, but whether you are feeling stressed or bored skincare is still super important! Here are five pieces to our quarantine skincare routines:

  1. This quarantine has provided some much-needed healing time for my body, health, and most importantly my skin. I have personally been using this time to let my skin rest from all of the makeup I usually wore every day. My pores have been appearing smaller, I have had fewer breakouts, and it has also allowed me to get comfortable in my own skin.

  2. This time of year, I always experience super dry skin, no matter how much I moisturize or exfoliate. The only thing that has seemed to help is using aloe vera. Even though I am in quarantine my skin is still important to me, and I want to take care of it just like I always would. Aloe vera is now a daily essential for my morning and night skincare routines!

  3.  Sunscreen, something we all know is important, yet something some of us still refuse to use (no worries I was guilty of this too). Whenever I am outside I always want to tan, and I find myself debating whether I should apply sunscreen or just risk it for an even tan. I would always suffer from bright red burnt cheeks on my face so I could have the perfect bronzed body. Living in a high altitude town like Park City the sun is constantly beating down on me and it took me a long time to start using a sunscreen every day, but now I am a strong believer in it (and I’m still able to get a great tan).

  4. As it seems like the whole world is online right now, I have had plenty of time just sitting in front of my computer. Whether I’m doing homework or watching Netflix, I have found that computer time is also a great opportunity for a face mask. I switch between a couple of different masks depending on my skin: an exfoliating peel mask, a calming sheet mask, or a breakout controlling clay mask.

  5. Exfoliate! Using an exfoliating scrub in the shower is a new addition to my skincare routine but I have seen a huge reduction in dead/dry skin, blackheads, and breakouts. When choosing an exfoliator it is important to find one that is not too harsh chemically and has small exfoliating particles.

Although things may seem crazy right now, remember to take time for yourself. Skincare is a great way to relax and when quarantine is over you can walk out with amazing skin!
